Newport News is one of the great cities of Hampton Roads. It's a diverse city with a population of about $185,000 people, many of whom are local, but a large percentage of which have found their way to Newport News from other parts of the country and the world. Newport News has a very strong military presence due to Fort Eustis, located along the western shore, and Langley Air Force Base, which is in Hampton. Many residents of Newport News are stationed at either base, although Newport News is still conveniently located to many other bases in the Hampton Roads area.
But what to do in Newport News? Some of our favorite local destinations include the Mariner's Museum; a nautical museum with adjoined fine arts center. This center also features the Noland Trail; a 5 mile hiking loop that along with it's 14 bridges takes you over and around Lake Maury and along the James River, where the views are absolutely breathtaking. Riverview Farm Park, in tne Menchville area offers a massive playground, sports fields, and a 1.5 mile paved track, perfect for walking, jogging or biking. Paragon Theater, with big comfortable reclining seats, and Tradition Brewing are two hot spots in City Center at Oyster Point. Hilton Tavern and Circa 1918 draw crowds down to Hilton Village every night, while newly opened First Lap Virginia attracts visitors from all around to the Denbigh area of Newport News.
When searching for homes in Newport News you'll find as diverse a home selection here as you will anywhere. From the large, beautifully appointed subdivision of Kiln Creek, to million dollar homes on the James River, to the 1919 slate roofed homes of Hilton, to the new condos of City Center you'll have a wide variety of sizes, styles, and price points to choose from. There are still some very limited options to build new in Newport News, but the vast majority of sales in the area are for previous occupied homes.
